If you are an FSU instructor interested in proctored testing for your FSU course exam, we offer in-person proctoring at our main campus facility, coordinate off-site testing for distance learning exams through a worldwide network of approved proctoring facilities, and offer online (remote) proctoring for distance learning. Services are provided by advance request only.

On-Campus Testing
Our NCTA-certified testing facility is located on FSU's Tallahassee campus and provides secure, proctored testing for high-stakes and distance learning course exams.
Capacity
With a capacity of 262 seats, the Testing Center administers between 3,500 - 12,000 exam sessions a week. We proctor upwards of 2,000 exams per day during final exams week.
Security
We adhere to the National College Testing Association’s Professional Standards and Guidelines and maintain a 30-to-1 proctor-to-tester ratio at all times. A highly trained team of proctors provides on-the-floor visual monitoring of testers as well as video surveillance via 60 high-definition, fisheye cameras that allow a 360-degree view of each testing station. We validate tester identification upon check-in, allow only instructor-approved exam materials, and notify instructors of any irregularities or potential academic misconduct.
Environment
Your students can expect to be greeted by professional, service-oriented staff who strive to create a hospitable testing environment.
Service Requests
You can request main campus Testing Center proctoring for your course exam(s) through the Instructor Request application. The request window opens at least 6 weeks prior to the start of each semester. Our exam calendar fills quickly, especially for finals week and high-enrollment classes. As much as it's possible, try to submit requests no later than the priority consideration deadline. See Requesting Services for deadlines, instructions, and access to the Instructor Request application.

Off-Campus Testing
For exams in online courses, we maintain a list of approved proctors, adjust exams and settings in Canvas to ensure students can access their test at an off-campus site, and mediate the secure transfer of access passwords and allowed exam aids from the instructor to the student's selected proctor.
Approved Sites
Your distance learning students have access to a network of over 700 approved, proctored testing sites worldwide. You can view a current list of approved sites and locations by using the Proctor Selection application's Proctor Search feature. If students have searched the list and are still unable to find an approved proctor near them, they can submit a request for an alternate proctor.
Fees
Approved, off-campus proctors are not affiliated with FSU, charge for services, and often require pre-payment. Instructors should provide appropriate disclosures in their course syllabus when requiring students to test with an off-campus proctor or facility. Upon your request, you can offer free proctored testing for your local online students at the main campus Testing Center. For instructions on requesting services, see the section titled Service Requests below and the Requesting Services page.
Proctor Verification
Before approving an off-campus proctor, we verify they have appropriate experience and that they meet and comply with qualification guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Service Requests
If you would like your students to test in-person at one of our approved sites, you can request these services through the Instructor Request application. When submitting a request for off-campus testing for an online course, you will have an opportunity to indicate if you would also like to allow your students the additional option of testing with an online proctor. The window opens at least 6 weeks prior to the start of each semester. See Requesting Services for deadlines, instructions, and access to the Instructor Request application.

Online Testing (Honorlock)
Through Spring 2026, we offer Honorlock’s Live Pop-In service, a hybrid solution that blends AI with live proctors who “pop in” to an exam session if unusual activity is detected. Exam sessions are recorded for review by the instructor.
Fees
Students pay $4.45 per exam to use the Honorlock Live Pop-In service. Please note that services can vary depending on the provider. Instructors should provide appropriate disclosures in their course syllabus when requiring students to test with an online proctoring service.
Eligibility
Students may only use Honorlock if you allow it in your course. However, due to security limitations inherent with AI-based proctoring, instructors are strongly encouraged to take advantage of in-person proctoring services, in-class proctoring solutions (eg, Akindi forms, lockdown browsers, polling), and alternative means of assessment where possible, especially for exams worth 15% or more of the course grade.
Service Requests
If you would like to allow your online students access to online proctoring (eg, Honorlock), follow the instructions for "Online Proctoring" on the Requesting Services page. See Honorlock Resources for Instructors for information on getting started.

Online Testing (SmarterProctoring)
SmarterProctoring Live, which features human proctors to record and monitor students in real time throughout the duration of their online exams, offers instructors a higher level of exam security and academic integrity in online tests.
Fees
Students pay SmarterProctoring directly, with proctoring fees ranging from $13-29 per exam. Instructors should provide appropriate disclosures in their course syllabus when requiring students to test with an online proctoring service.
Scheduling
Students must schedule an appointment to use SmarterProctoring, just as they would when testing with an in-person proctor. Appointments should be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance to avoid additional fees for late scheduling.
Eligibility
Students may only use SmarterProctoring if you allow it in your course. Please note that SmarterProctoring is intended for use in distance learning courses and should be reserved for high-stakes exams. Instructors teaching face-to-face courses are encouraged to take advantage of no-cost proctoring through the FSU Testing Center, in-class proctoring solutions (eg, Akindi forms, lockdown browsers, polling), and alternative means of assessment where possible, especially for exams worth 15% or more of the course grade.
Service Requests
If you would like to allow your online students access to SmarterProctoring, submit a request to have it enabled in your course. See the SmarterProctoring Guide for Instructors for information on getting started.

In-Class Testing
To support the academic integrity of exams administered in the classroom, we offer the web-based scanning tool Akindi and the Respondus Lockdown Browser. Akindi enables instructors to print and scan multiple-choice tests and surveys from their home or office. Integrated within Canvas, Akindi offers one-click grade syncing, randomized questions, and enhanced data security. Lockdown browsers help mitigate cheating by preventing access to applications or websites outside the Canvas learning management system.
