Appointment Scheduling
Because SmarterProctoring relies on human proctors, students must schedule an appointment to use SmarterProctoring, just as they would when testing with an in-person proctor.
- Appointments are offered 24/7, providing scheduling flexibility for students located in different time zones.
- Appointments should be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance to avoid additional fees for late scheduling.
- Instructors must provide appropriate disclosures in their course syllabus when requiring students to test with an online proctoring service. See What to Tell Students for recommended language to include in your syllabus or assignment instructions.
Proctored Testing Fees
While SmarterProctoring’s fee structure is higher than traditional, AI-based proctoring, it is less than or comparable to fees charged by most in-person proctored testing facilities. Fees vary based on the set exam duration, and students scheduling less than 72 hours in advance will be charged an additional fee. Please be sure to disclose fees in your course syllabus or assignment instructions.
| Designated Exam Duration | Fee* |
|---|---|
| 1-30 Minutes | $13 |
| 31-60 Minutes | $18 |
| 61-90 Minutes | $21.50 |
| 91-120 Minutes | $24 |
| 121-180 Minutes | $29 |
*Students with extra-time accommodations will pay the same fee as those without extra-time accommodations.
Exam Eligibility
Students may only use SmarterProctoring if you allow it in your course. Please note that SmarterProctoring is intended for use in distance learning courses and should be reserved for high-stakes exams. Instructors teaching face-to-face courses are encouraged to take advantage of no-cost proctoring through the FSU Testing Center, in-class proctoring solutions (eg, Akindi forms, lockdown browsers, polling), and alternative means of assessment where possible, especially for exams worth 15% or more of the course grade.
Exam Readiness
Exams proctored via the SmarterProctoring Live service must be finalized in Canvas no later than 14 days before the exam window opens. After that point, you must notify us before making any changes to your exam or its settings (including dates and duration). This ensures students can schedule their appointment early enough to avoid late scheduling fees. See Preparing Your Test for more information.
