Before students can schedule exams, instructors must request and be approved for FSU Testing Center services.
Are your students required to test in the main campus Testing Center, with an off-campus proctoring facility, or with an online proctor? It's important that your students know which proctoring options you allow in your course, fees that may be associated with proctored testing, and their responsibility for scheduling exam appointments, reviewing their selected proctor's policies, paying applicable exam fees, and requesting testing accommodations.
Copy and paste the text below into your course syllabus (or use the Canvas syllabus template), starting with the introductory text about proctored exams, then additional instructions based on the proctoring option(s) you allow.
Step 1. Copy introductory text to your course syllabus.
Proctored Exams
This course may require you to take an exam in an approved, proctored environment. Expect to pay the provider a fee for their proctoring services. You are responsible for scheduling your exam appointment(s) with the testing provider, paying applicable fees, and familiarizing yourself with their policies, including when to arrive, what to bring and not bring, allowed and prohibited activities, and instructions for missed appointments. Below are the testing providers I allow you to use for this course, along with instructions on making an appointment and paying fees.
Step 2. Copy additional instructions based on what you allow.

Exams in this course may be taken at the main campus FSU Testing Center (University Center Building C, Suite 1100) at no cost to FSU students.
- Review the FSU Testing Center website and follow all applicable instructions prior to making an exam appointment in the main campus facility. Online students need to select the FSU Testing Center as their proctor in the first two weeks of the semester (or first week of summer).
- Schedule your exam appointment using the Exam Registration System. Registration opens 2-4 weeks before your scheduled exam. Schedule early as appointment slots fill quickly.
Follow instructions on the Need Accommodations? page if you need testing accommodations for a disability.
Gulf Coast State College Testing Center | PANAMA CITY
Exams in this course may be taken at the Gulf Coast State College Testing Center in Panama City, Florida. Testing is free for FSU Panama City students. Please review the FSU Panama City Proctored Exams page for instructions.
Off-Campus, FSU-Approved Proctor
Exams in this course may be taken with an off-campus proctor as long as the provider is approved by the FSU Testing Center. Expect to pay the provider a fee for testing.
- Review the FSU Testing Center's Selecting a Proctor page and follow instructions for locating and selecting an approved proctor within the first two weeks of the semester (or first week of summer). Contact me if you cannot access an approved proctor.
- Verify proctor information (eg, fees, technology and identification requirements, address, email, phone number, cell phone policy). If the proctor prohibits mobile devices, you will need to request a 2FA bypass code ahead of time in order to log into Canvas and access your exam without a cell phone.
- Follow the provider's instructions for scheduling and paying for your appointment. Some require pre-payment and a receipt for entry. Financial aid may be used to cover the cost of proctored testing.

- Review and follow all instructions for Using an Online Proctor, paying special attention to technical requirements.
